January
 
New Year's eve:
Farifax county festival (near GMU) with Yang Jun couple and Qian Meihua;
got phone calls from Nancy and Liliang attending the Ball Drop at the Time Square, NYC.
 
Job search:
Started to look at job listings and send out resumes.
 
 
February
 
Chinese New Year:
Organized CUA Chinese students gathering, pot-luck party and CCTV festival video;
Zhang Mincheng's church Spring Festival banquet; Maryland U. ball.
 
Rent a car to Annapolis, Baltimore; second time to Ann' and first time to Bal'; chilly and windy.
 
Job search: 
First interview (phone): Kean U. IR Office; an overhaul on my resume: completely abandoned the old one. Thanks for Yan Ming's work on it.
 
Obituary:
Professor Lee passed away suddenly; presented a Chinese prayer in front of 100+ people at the National Shrine Church; thought that life is so unpredictable.
 
Valentine's Day:
Red roses, rain, American-style dinner at Silver Spring.
 
 
March
 
 
Spring break:
Unusual snow, a whole week of being slack, book "Wild Swan".
 
Admissions and papers:
Cancelled trip to Elon U. at NC for presenting my paper at a conference;
Admitted to UCLA and Johns Hopkins.
 
Job search:
Continued and focused on Institutional Research; sent out applications nationwide.
 
Started to look for second-hand cars.
 
 
April
 
 
CUA International Culture Week:
Chinese Embassy, heavy rain, rental car.
 
 
4/12:
Passed SAS certification exam. 
 
Job search:
Continued sending out applications; got several phone interviews; World Bank informed me of a temporary job.
 
 
May
 
 
5/1:
Flying kite at the National Mall; Lincoln Memorial, War World II nightview.
 
Job search:
Drove rental cars to interview at Baltimore twice; some phone interview; no progress.
 
West Trip:
Longest travel time (11 days) in life; Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, Grand Canyon. Great activities, great companions, great pictures, great memories.
 
Decided to continue to stay.
 
 
June
 
 
Job search:
Started to bombard more websites and resources;  got resume/coverletter edited a lot, and they looked much better; still no interviews at all for a whole month.
 
Friends:
Liliang started his internship in NYC; Meng Yu took off to Atlanta for a new program; new roommate, coincided to have been to the same elementary school, the same high school and the U. in China; folks around seemed busy with their summer jobs.
 
CUA:
Continued working part-time; 6/19 first time mass at National Shrine.
 
Trip:
Wiiliamsburg; Charlottesville, U. of Virginia.
 
 
July
 
 
Independence Day:
Time Square; Broadway show ("Chicago"); afternoon coffee time with Liliang at Starbucks on Madison Ave; Manhattan fashion shops;ESPAN play zone, got my purse stolen; Greenvillage bar; wonderful fireworks on Hudson River; happy to reunite with Nancy (Have not seen for 1 year); happy to reunite with Yan Kuan (have not seen for decades); Chinatown greyhound bus sucks.
 
7/13:
My birthday; Yi Dong Lou dinner; NYC in crystal pillar (gift).
 
Job search:
No interview for a month until 7/29--PRB. Failed in the final round of interview.
 
 
August
 
Job search:
Interviews began to line up on agenda; Westat 3.5 hours interview; more polish on resume and coverletter and writing sample.
 
New York again:
Brooklyn Bridge; US tennis open; witnessed Agassi and Sarapova; Chinese nail woman; Flushing Chinese food-four entries and one soup.
 
This month passed like a flash.
 
 
September
 
Friends:
Liliang came back to DC; Wu Kun landed on US and came to visit DC on labor day; Xie Lei in Montreal, Canada told me she has been to DC many times in summer; Lily said she wanted to visit me; Muzhen in Australia planned to work in the US.
 
 
Paper:
My environmental paper was pushed to be edited before the deadline.
 
 
Job search:
Still kept on interviewing every week; still searched and sent out resumes; interviews killing me.
 
 
Festivals:
Chinese embassy; Silver Spring Mid-Autumn pot-luck; CUA Crab festival.
 
 
October
 
 
Job search:
Finally two offers pop up; took Virginia one.
 
Work:
10/24 first day of work at DA.
 
 
Car:
Financing TOYOTA corolla; my first car.
 
Ad Hoc:
National Mall biking; Dr. Hoge's party; Xin Cai Shen dim sum; Shenandoah National Park hiking; Chinese embassy Education Division banquet; Georgetown Mull Boat Tour; Georgetown Halloween parade; Melissa baby shower party; Washington Post & Newsweek.
 
 
November
 
Work:
Pysically relocated office from Rosslyn to Court House, VA; site visit to Baltimore two days for VR project.
 
Caribbean trip (Thanksgiving):
4-day trip to the San Juan, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Island; paradise beaches; wooden cottage and Best Western hotel; 6-passenger jetliner; left side traffic; botanist taxicab driver; Old San Juan's lamps; mosquito bites.
 
 
Ad Hoc:
MCI Hockey game; Harper's Ferry, West Virginia hiking; Wal-mart, Potomac Mill Outlet (first time); rookie driver.
 
 
December
 
Tyson's Corner Mall; Chinese Theater "Yuan Ye" (Wild Field); cleaned snow on the car; Liliang back home in China; DA open house party; movie "Memoirs of a Geisha"; Wheaton Mall; Chinese folks party at Xmas; lost in Rockville.
 
Look forward to a new year, 2006.
